　　美国文理学院是什么？

　　对于什么是文理学院(Liberal Arts College)，其实没有一个准确定义。一般提到文理学院，大部分指的就是小型私立精英大学，标签是小班教学、师生比高，学生受到的关注多，学生满意度高，鼓励课堂发言及讨论。

　　文理学院（Liberal Arts College），又称博雅学院，是美国高校的重要种类之一。文理学院一般指奉行博雅教育，以本科教育为主，规模小而精的大学。文理学院注重全面综合教育，强调发掘学生的思维潜能，实现真正意义上的全人发展，其课程设置以基础学科为主，涵盖艺术、人文、自然科学、社会科学等门类，以此来区别于以职业培训或科学研究为导向的综合性大学及各种专业学校、技术高校。

　　美国有相当一部分学生从这些文理学院中获得学士学位。在大部分美国人心目中，文理学院往往代表着经典、小规模、高质量的本科教育。许多文理学院的学术声誉往往不亚于哈佛，耶鲁等综合性大学，因而成为很多美国上流社会及贵族子女的首选。

　　美国最著名的文理学院有威廉姆斯学院、波莫纳学院等，它们在美国本土的排名超越一众常青藤名校。而耶鲁-新加坡国立大学学院、东京大学文理学院、香港岭南大学及韩国延世大学国际学院（UIC)等均是亚洲文理学院中的佼佼者，均曾被《福布斯》杂志列入亚洲十大顶尖博雅学院，并被形容为博雅教育在亚洲崛起的代表。

　　美国文理学院优势

　　提起美国的名校，多数人只会想到哈佛耶鲁这种综合大学，其实除此之外还有很多文理学院也非常优秀，那么美国的文理学院值得读吗？其实值不值要看你如何选择，文理学院有其独特的优势，这也是近几年来越来越多的留学生选择文理学院的原因！

　　1. 小班教学：文理学院有着较低的师生比，师生比一般在1：10左右，有些学院甚至达到1：8的比例。

　　2. 通识教育：学生文理兼修，很多学校对学生的选课都有一定的要求，要求学生人文，社会科学，及理科都要选一定的学分。而且大部分学生都会追求双专业或是最少辅修一个专业。

　　3. 师生关系亲密：教授与学生课堂上及课外互动多。课堂上不用说，因为班级人数少，所以教授都能够轻易叫出每位学生的名字。上课往往以互动方式来授课，这种模式比较轻松，也拉进了师生的感情。教授也常常会邀请学生到家里吃饭什么的(甚至有些学院，教授必须请学生聚餐或到家里拜访)。在一些比较偏僻的学校，因为教授也住学校附近，而且周边没有什么娱乐场所，教授一般都积极参与学生各种活动。

　　4. 学生背景好：因为文理学院在传统上一直被许多顶尖家庭背景的白人主流社会所推崇及欢迎，所以学生一直以家庭背景良好的白人为主。当然这个也可能是坏处，因为有些文理学院如华盛顿和李大学就是一个非常白人主义的学校，少数民族可能会受到歧视。

　　5. 研究机会多：因为文理学院一般没有研究生，所以如果教授需要研究助手，只能找本科生。在综合大学里，教授如果想做科研，大多数会选择找博士生或是研究生，因为这些人专业度比较强，不需要太多的培训就可以做高强度的实验。

　　6. 课堂管理比较严谨：学院对学生的要求极其严格，因为每堂课的人很少，哪位学生出现与否，教授一目了然。不能逃课或抄袭作业。如果有学生无故旷课三次，成绩就降一级，比如：A变成B。当然，这对某些学生来说可能也是劣势，

　　7. 读研有优势：a. 因为与教授关系好，交流多，能拿到好的推荐信。b. 因为学习好，成绩一般比较高。 c. 因为文理兼修，在考研时占优势，因为很多考试如GRE，GMAT，LSAT等都是文理都考的。d. 研究经验较多。 e. 教学质量被很多顶尖大学认可。

　　8. 老师热爱教学：文理学院是教授研究的坟墓。因为文理学院没有博士生研究生，经费设备也没有综合大学好，所以尤其是理科方面的教授，就很难做出顶尖的研究。因此，选择来到文理学院任职的教授，一般都要是非常喜欢教学，而且是热爱教学多过做研究的。不然这些教授是不会放弃在综合大学的机会的。还有，他们也要喜欢和学生互动，因为这就是文理学院教学的宗旨之一。

　　9. 一般大三才需要定专业：让学生有更多的时间探索，找寻他们最感兴趣最适合的专业。

　　10. 就业也不差：很多文理学院因为地理位置比较差，所以一般的感觉是就业不好。但是很多文理学院因为虽然机会较少，但是竞争也少，所以其实整体就业并不差的，很多甚至比综合大学还好。

　　11. 跨领域学习容易：文理学院特别提倡跨学科研究，所以很多时候甚至会以财力及资源支持学生做这方面的研究。

　　12. 适合学习美国语言和文化：因为学校白人为主中国人少，在语言上及在文化交流上都比综合大学有优势。

　　13. 很多文理学院都有分配国际学生奖学金的名额。虽然这些奖学金发给中国学生的较少，但是相对于综合大学还是好很多。
